Building My Virtual Reality Portfolio
I’ve always been fascinated by the possibilities new technology presents: new ways of telling stories and connecting. Our digital communications are no longer limited to simply viewing a piece of content and clicking "like." With the growth in popularity of AR and VR technologies, the content we produce can now be truly immersive.
Hence, I’ve been deeply diving into C#, Unity, and Blender to better understand these possibilities and start building the creative future of tomorrow, today.
Work In Progress: The Video Store Of My Dreams
Throwing it back to the Blockbuster era, there wasn't much more exciting than a trip to the video store growing up. Whether it was a sketchy B-horror movie, or a new video game, it always meant a good night was coming. Soon I will have a virtual reality version of my potfolio where the video tapes can be played on the in-store monitors and feature the various case study videos for projects I've done.
Here are some glimpses into the work in progress. I've designed the entirety of the building structure and interior furniture. Next up will be the video tapes and VCR mechanism to play the content, followed by finishiing lighting and some secret surprises tucked inside the shop.
Shop Architecture
Let's start from the start. The first piece of the puzzle was to design the actual shop architecture. I wanted it to feel common like your every-town video store, but with subtle brutalist forms that nod to a neo-noir style that I came to love while living in Tokyo.

Blender Modeling
With the plans in place, the next step was to hop into 3D and build out the pieces. While modeling the building and furniture I was also able to test out materials and lighting to import into Unity upon completion.

Unity Build
With the models imported from Blender I have been able to begin building the final environment in Unity. Set in a dreamy city with a nebula sky, the video store stands out like an 80's beacon in the night.
